Toyota urban Cruiser First Impression/Review - TTI

The Toyota Urban Cruiser is the second product to come out of the Suzuki Toyota partnership in India, the first being the glanza which of course is a rebadged Baleno hatchback. So, is the Urban Cruiser more than just a bad job, well that's what we're here to tell you today.

Toyota Urban Cruiser : Exterior

Now, as compared to the Glanza which was literally just a badge engineered Baleno with literally a different badge up front, Toyota has taken a bit more effort with the Urban Cruiser trying to differentiate from the Brezza with a new front end.

Now, what you do get is a very typically Toyota look to the front. You get a larger chunkier grille with these sort of squarish indents that look rather nice and you get this typical design language that we've seen on a whole bunch of cars in India and internationally on the Toyota lineup too. One of the interesting features that we have found is this little circular vent in the lower half of the bumper, it's not there on the other side, it's just on the right side only and you would never guess what's behind, it it's actually the placement for the horn, so definitely an SUV that's made for India, considering how much we do like to toot that horn all the time. Around the rear, the design stays exactly the same with the large led tail lamps and silver cladding on the bumpers and of course a Toyota logo in place of the Suzuki one on the Brezza.

Toyota Urban Cruiser : Interior

Now, while there are some exterior changes on the Urban Cruiser, the interior stays exactly the same as what you get on the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. You get the exact same dashboard with the same textured hard plastics. You get the same infotainment screen up in the middle.

You get the same dials, you get basically everything the same apart from the fact that instead of the Suzuki logo on steering wheel, you now get a Toyota logo here. There were some rumors of course about the Urban Cruiser coming with a beige interior or a lighter interior but obviously that hasn't happened. It's almost exactly the same as what you get in the Brezza apart from the fact that instead of the all black upholstery on the Brezza, the Urban Cruiser's seats have a brown finish instead. The upholstery design however remains identical.

According to ARAI, the fuel economy for the manual is rated at 17.03 kilometers per liter while the automatic is rated at 18.76. Both the manual and the automatic are available in three variants each, mid, high and premium skipping the entry-level variant that you get on the Brezza manual altogether.

Prices for the manual Urban Cruisers start at 8,40,000 rupees while the automatic starts at 9,80,000 rupees. Compared to the Brezza, this is just 5,000 to 15,000 rupees more, depending on which variant you choose.

Toyota urban Cruiser Review - TTI

With the Urban Cruiser, Toyota is not only aiming to cater to a new segment of buyers which could be first-time SUV buyers or first-time car buyers altogether but will also serve new markets in the country in a bid to increase its market penetration with 50 new dealerships slated to open in the near future. So, now that you've seen what Toyota's first ever compact SUV for India looks like. Tell us what you think of it, would you buy one over the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza or would you choose one of its rivals instead.
